Virtual Machine

My boyfriend is a Computer Science major, which means he knows a lot more about technology than I do. The other day I noticed he was running what looked like a Mac on his monitor...but he has Windows....so I was really confused. He explained to me that it is a virtual machine. Essentially, it's like running a machine within a machine. It was strange because what showed on the screen was not what I expected. It looked exactly like a Mac, but the whole background could be minimized to expose the familiar windows desktop.
I was trying to analyze the technology with some of the ideas from the articles we read, but I have no idea where to place this. Does anyone have any thoughts?

  1. Thats awesome. My boyfriend also knows way too much about technology and computers especially and after reading this blog, I had to ask him to explain more to me. Its actually pretty cool. I still dont understand all of it. Im not sure where to place this with the articles we read. Maybe under Idhe with the relations of technologies and the world, but he didnt have a relation for experiencing the world through a technology that is through another technology. lol. Sorry I cant help. :)

  2. well labtops that are rented from libraries on campus are actually macs, but they can either be changed between mac or pc. I found that very interesting, but it was true which is great for the borrowers because there are some that are good with pc and others good with mac.

  4. Nice, I actually do the same thing, but opposite. I have a Mac and sometimes need to run Windows for some application that isn't supported by my Mac OS. Besides being able to switch back and forth easily, Windows actually runs a lot better on my Mac than on any PC I've used.
